Kamil obtained his PhD from Integral University, India. To pursue his interest in malaria biology, he moved to the Beykoz Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology Bezmialem Vakif University, in Turkey, where he worked with the rodent malaria parasites Plasmodium berghei and Plasmodium yoelii. Using transgenesis, he identified the cellular localization of a number of parasite proteins throughout the parasite life cycle with fluorophore tagging, including spermidine synthase, HSP90 paralogs and TMEM33. In addition, using gene deletion studies he identified the essentiality of several proteins in parasite life cycle progression. To excel in translational malaria research, he moved to USA and is currently working as postdoctoral fellow in Kappe, Vaughan and Minkah labs at Seattle Children's Research Institute. He is working with P. falciparum field isolates and performing genetic crosses between different P. falciparum strains to understand the role of non-nuclear genome inheritance in the recombinant progeny.
